Here's the problem, the stihl setting gage seems to set the air gap too tight, like 0.004 measured between the ignition module arms and the flywheel magnets using a feeler gage set Since the field can only build when the points are closed and drops when the points open, the timing of the ignition points is also critical. It seems as though the center coil pick up on the ignition module has a wider air gap
Now my question, what is the proper way to measure an ignition module air gap? Closer gap and/or faster speed = higher induced voltage It's sop to inspect & gap new spark plugs to your desired gap before installing them
They could have been dropped, thereby changing the gap, etc
Never assume they are gapped correctly out of the box How does the manufacturer know what you are going to gap them at? This took creating drivrs in the hei module to increase dwell charge time to the coil, store more energy, to make the larger gap function correctly over a point system Along the development of the hei, some engineers decided that to fire off ever more leaner fuel molecules, the hei needed increased spark plug gaps.
Th350 stock converter to a blueprint 350 W/ bp flexplate (new) i have done the research and just wanted to confirm what i have read online with the knowledge base here When i go to bolt the tc and the flywheel together, there is a gap of.210 as measured with feeler gauges (see pic below). Building a 454 030 overbore and pre gapped rings are 25/26 thou gap
That is a bit more than i would like
Ok, or do i have to buy file fit that cost a fortune Hello all, just looking to see what i should gap spark plugs to with a 454 using an edelbrock 35830 efi kit The plug gap is a little small for that mild of a motor In fact when i first started running msd ignitions
An a 350 built up not much more than yours, and i ran a 0.045 plug gap for 3 yrs I think the example from msd below is a little wide in my opinion. The air gap has bolt holes between the intake ports My cylinder heads don't have those
I'd probably have to weld those shut
Port matching might be an issue I did notice that air flow research has introduced a new dual plane magnum intake for rec port bbc It's 1/4 inch taller however Not sure of the availability
I'll need to contact them The brodix intake won't be available for another. The business cars gap is the quickest way of setting and will be fine As for the tape on that fly wheel i have never seen anything on any flywheel like that on any machine from large to small i have worked on
If you bought the saw second hand maybe that was the previous owners way of setting the gap?
