The kitchener grinder is a great jumping off point Yes it does have the white nylon gears, but as long as you pay. I have had mine for 3 years now and have run close to 5 tons of meat through it without any problems
Mine is branded northern tool, but it is the exact same unit. I've seen this stuffer in my local store and it is identical to the northern tool model that i have Some time back, when i first started making sausage, i purchased a kitchner 5 lb stuffer from northern tool

I have been researching meat grinders of late Lem, carnivore, weston and tonight i stumbled upon the guide gear from northern tool Any of you folks got experience with this brand Looking at the #12 and not much in the way of reviews anywhere
The northern tool model states carbon steel so if i were going to buy this type, i would probably go with the kitchener The kitchener is also on sale right now for $99 which is $30 less for anyone interested I am certainly not a “brand name” seeker and didn’t even know about lem until i started researching. Northern tool has a fair unit under $100 and sausage maker has a really decent one with metal gears for $149
All that being said, if you still want to pursue this path, i would suggest stripping the motor and belt reduction from a drill press or use the dc motor and power supply/control system from a treadmill.
