In between now and then there are hw engineering samples built and tested by sony and amd The magnus apu is likely such a custom engineering sample with the final zen6 and rdna/udna frontends So internally amd and sony can test compilers and drivers. Ps6 will probably be digital first and offer the ability to attach a disc drive, like the pro and slim ps5 do
I'd also expect bc with ps4 and ps6 games Beyond that though, who knows. The ps6 they ship does need to at least convince users to upgrade But if the only way they can do that is by significantly increasing their hardware subsidy or shipping a $699 console on day one, then that is going to be worse for the long term health of the platform than a 20% difference in gpu hardware power, or a 4gb difference in memory.
My gut tells me the ps6 generation will feel more like ps2 and ps4 (if aaa/the entire economy doesn't implode)
To get this thread started, here are some thoughts/speculation by myself (it's more focused on ps6, because i think sony is more predictable) For me, 3x raster performance of the ps5 will be good because i expected the ps6 to be on par with an rtx 4080 at best Now we'll have to see what happens because the 160w it's a bit hard to believe, but i don't think it's disappointing if the ps6 has performance equivalent to an rtx 4080 Kepler says portable ps6 is a 15w soc on 3nm [up
