As someone who read the manga first, i think there is so much discourse over endeavour and rei's story simply because of the differences in portrayal That meant no piggybacking off the todoroki name or agency, to get easy approval ratings. In the manga, endeavour's anger was always directed towards all might and himself while rei watches enji's descent into madness fearfully from the sidelines
In the second page, endeavour was shown feeling more and more inadequate. If itsuki wanted his father's blessings to be a hero, he needed to prove his worth on his own He mentally divided the real world into two categories

Also hasn't been updated in a while but i felt like the midway finale was satisfying still. Enji leaving the flowers for rei in the hospital meant to rei that he wants to face the past and not leave his family behind While rei coming to the hospital with the same flower represents her determination to step up for her family and especially for touya, and propping up endeavor because he needed to not fall apart. The biggest peeve of the people is with the scene after natsuo's birth in the anime, with enji looking angrily to rei and rei looking haunted (in the manga, we just had random panels and no indication what she was looking at).
Enji todoroki is a deeply missundertood, but extremely flawed character I personally love endeavor, and i love that his literal endeavor tranforms from being the best hero in the world, to become the hero the world actually needs, and the father he was meant to be. Enji was actively choosing to make it worse, by banishing touya to another part of the house and refusing to speak with him on a normal basis It eventually ended with touya's mental breakdown and accidentally killing himself
With that being said, enji todoroki got off extremely easy in this arc with his reputation being exposed.
